01.4 Workshop 02

The IMMUNO-model TGRC workshop “Immunotherapies: charting a course from the lab to the clinic”, took place in Dublin City University, Ireland on Saturday, the 31st August 2024. 55 attendees heard from experts in the pre-clinical, clinical, translational and industry/SME sectors who provided presentations outlining their fields of expertise and the current challenges they face in relation to immunotherapies. The workshop focused on exploring beyond state-of-the-art approaches, covering novel translational strategies, zebra fish models and engineered cellular therapies. The final session focused on summarizing the learnings from the first two sessions to identify new areas of research and the key challenges in modelling immunotherapy. Some of the key challenges identified included funding and better connections with clinicians and industry.

02.1 EORTC Patient Days

IMMUNO-model COST Action was presented at the EORTC Patient Days on 30-31 October 2024: joint collaboration with patients’ organization is very relevant for IMMUNO-model activities. Indeed, IMMUNO-model is organizing activities with Patients’ organization (see section 3.3)

03. Upcoming and ongoing activities

03.1 Webinars: Do not lose the opportunity to participate in the upcoming webinars:

“Spatial Biology in Drug Discovery and Immunotherapy: exploring innovative technologies” will be moderated by Dr. Barbara Breznik, Department of Genetic Toxicology and Cancer Research, University of Liublijana, Slovenia, and Prof. Rosalinda Sorrentino, Department of Pharmacy, University of Salerno, Italy, on 19th December 2024, 2.00-3.30 pm. More information are at the link: https://www.immuno-model.eu/webinar-series/webinar-06-spatial-biology-in-drug-discovery-and-immunotherapy-exploring-innovative-technologies/

03.2 Annual Meeting: SAVE the DATE

SAVE the DATE for the Third Annual Meeting entitled “Modeling Immunotherapy for cancer: Bridging Research to Clinical Application”, that will be held in May 13-14, 2025, at the University of Warsaw Biological and Chemical Research Centre (CNBCh UW, Warsaw, Poland).

03.3 Collaboration with Patients’ Organization

IMMUNO-model is introducing its activities to Patients’ organization as patients are part of the COST Action and are ultimately who will benefit from immunotherapy. Upcoming activities will be directed to allow Patients’ organization know what immuno-therapy is and which clinical research is out there. IMMUNO-model WGs and members believe that it is important to create information for patients about immuno-therapy and clinical research. On the other side, listening to patients’ stories, will help in better design models and therapies trying to avoid toxicities they experienced. A Task Force is dedicating on these aspects.

03.4 Special issue in Frontiers in Immunology titled “Cellular Immunotherapy: transforming Cancer Treatment”

This Research Topic, organized and supported by the IMMUNO-model COST Action, will review the latest advances in the development and application of cell-based immunotherapies for cancer treatment. If you are interested apply using the following link: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/66551/cellular-immunotherapy-transforming-cancer-treatment

03.5 Grants

Do not lose the opportunity to apply for mobility grants such as Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs), Young Research (YR) and Innovator Conference, Virtual mobility (VM), Dissemination Conference (DC) and Inclusive Target Country/Near Neighbour Country (ITC) Conference grants. New rules are available at the link: https://www.immuno-model.eu/mobility-grants/

03.6 Omics Data Gathering Project

The project has a dedicated taskforce to define the main principles of dataset searching and curation. The main goal is to enable researchers to easily access and organize relevant data, contributing to biomarker discovery and translational research. To do so, the dedicated Taskforce is curating a larger project aimed at visualizing and analyzing publicly available omics datasets in the immuno-oncology field.

03.7 Workshop 03

“Harmonizing models of immunotherapy: Past, present and future directions”: Working Group 2 (WG2) will hold a workshop in Bergen, Norway on in vivo modelling for the development of onco-Immunotherapeutics. The meeting will take place in early March and program will include speakers in the field of model development, workshops and identification of study groups to achieve the goals of WG 2.
