Immunotherapy (IT) has now revolutionized the way cancer patients are treated. You may wonder What about my cancer? Can I benefit from this treatment?
To answer this question, it´s important to understand how these therapies work and be aware that there is a huge diversity of Immunotherapies, each with its own effectiveness depending on the type of cancer. Immunotherapy relies on your immune system, which fights against emerging tumors, a biological process called “the anti-tumor immune response”. It occurs daily, preventing cancer development (Your Body Killed Cancer 5 Minutes Ago). However, when this process fails, your immune system may need support (the Reason Why Cancer is so Hard to Beat).
This is where IT(s) comes into play, offering various solutions to stimulate your immune system and help it to win the battle against cancer. If you want to know more about the different types of IT(s) and their use in cancer treatment, have a look at our videos and information below!
Unfortunately, not all patients respond to immunotherapy in the same way! Facilitating this exchange is the main objective of our COST Action IMMUNO-Model.
The insights and experiences of cancer patients undergoing immunotherapy are vital for advancing research and improving treatments: Your voice and experience matter, We need you!!
How can we improve immunotherapies?
Collaboration is the key to success because many minds together unlock greater discoveries. This is where COST helps!
Unfortunately, not all patients respond to immunotherapy in the same way! The good news is that scientists are intensively working to understand why this happens and how to make immunotherapy accessible to more cancer patients. But this cannot be done alone – it requires collaboration between scientists, clinicians and patients. Facilitating this exchange is the main objective of our COST Action IMMUNO-Model.
Join the COST Action IMMUNO-model!
The IMMUNO-model project brings together doctors, scientists, and patients to make cancer immunotherapy work better for everyone.
Your experience as a patient is very important. By sharing your story and getting involved, you can help improve future treatments—and also learn more about how they work.
Here’s how you can take part:
Together, we can bridge the gap between research and real-life care, making immunotherapy better for everyone.
We’d love to have you join the IMMUNO-model community! Please reach out to us if you’d like to learn more.
Led by Leticia Oliveira-Ferrer
The Patient Engagement Task Force of the COST Action IMMUNO-model, led by Leticia Oliveira-Ferrer, brings together scientists, healthcare providers, patients and representatives of cancer patient organisations to improve patient involvement in immunotherapy research and implementation.
IMMUNO-model’s mission is to foster meaningful dialogue between patients and researchers, bridging the gap between cutting-edge science and patient-centred care. IMMUNO-model is committed to creating clear, accessible educational materials that explain immunotherapies and the goals of our COST Action. These resources are designed to empower patients with knowledge and will be disseminated through channels that effectively reach diverse audiences. In addition to educational activities, the Task Force prioritises direct patient engagement by ensuring a strong patient presence at conferences and workshops organised by our COST Action.
IMMUNO-model also promotes patient involvement in research planning to ensure that their perspectives guide the development of future immunotherapy trials. Through these initiatives, IMMUNO-model aims to build a strong partnership between science and patient advocacy to drive advances that improve the accessibility and impact of cancer immunotherapies.
We are currently planning a Webinar for patients on Immunotherapy in Cancer, scheduled for Spring 2026. Further details including the exact date, speakers, agenda, and registration instructions will be announced soon. Please check this page regularly for updates..
